Basic Driver Improvement. The
National Traffic Safety Institute Defensive Driving Course 4-hour. May be
elected instead to remove the points after a traffic citation.
Also available for volunteers and
businesses. A new law went into effect on October 1, 1997, which allows
you to receive up to a 10% discount on your auto insurance for attending
a Basic Driver Improvement Course. Check with your insurance company to
see if you qualify!!
Bike Safety -- Bicycle Helmets and
Bicycle Traffic Safety School. High quality Bell bike helmets available
to the public for $9.50 -- just come to the Safety Council Monday -
Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Free helmets also available to qualified
groups. We also have bike safety classes.
D.A.T.E. Course. Traffic Law and
Substance Abuse Education Course. In order to obtain a first-time driver
license, Florida law requires the completion or either a Traffic Law and
Substance Abuse Education Course or Driver's Education.
D.U.I. Classes. Required after a DUI
conviction or refusal of a sobriety test. Also available: Special
Supervision Services Program (Must get hardship hearing with the
Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles before applying).
First-Aid and CPR. Essential
life-saving techniques for the home or business.
Maintenance of Traffic Florida’s Department of Transportation has mandated
training for all persons conducting work zone activities on the state and
any federally funded highways. Companies allowing untrained workers to conduct
work zone activities are not only out of compliance, but could also face
huge liability in the event of a work zone crash.
