In response to requests from the Alachua County Traffic
Courts and local law enforcement, the North Central Florida Safety
Council has developed a Bicycle Traffic Safety School.
Why take a bike Safety
Course?
Certainly, the simple answer is: to be a safer cyclist! Anybody may take
the course.
If you have received a bicycle moving
citation, you may take this two-hour course. If you present proof of
completing this course to the Clerk of the Court within 30 days of
receipt of your ticket, the fine for the ticket will be waived. This is a
one-time option, and available for any bicycle ticket received within
Alachua County.
The course includes:
- Florida laws as they
apply to bicycles
- Bicycle safety and
security

In an effort to make bike helmets available to every
citizen of North Central Florida, the North Central Florida Safety
Council has high quality, stylish Bell bike helmets available to any
individual at the price of $9.50 each. These can be purchased at the
Safety Council, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Periodically, the Safety Council
receives grants to provide free bike helmets to children in need. These
helmets are provided at events to targeted groups. If you represent a
group in need, please call (352) 377-2566 or 1-800-791-7888, or e-mail
the Programs Manager to inquire about setting up an event for your group.
